The History of KMOC 89.5FM Print E-mail

God always begins a new ministry in His own way. He places within the heart of someone a desire to go and to do, regardless of the price. So it was with the ministry you as KMOC-FM and its parent organization, The Christian Service Foundation. Following studies at Bob Jones University, and just out of Dallas Bible Institute, Jim and Mae Smith came to Wichita Falls in 1957 with a burning desire to establish a ministry to military personnel. Soon, with the help of a few local Christians, they launched the Christian Service Home, a "home away from home" for SAFB personnel, providing Biblical teaching and encouragement for lonely men and women of Sheppard Air Force Base. This vital but little-known ministry continued, incorporating years later and continues today as Christian Service Foundation, Inc.

Then, in late 1981, sensing a desire among local Christians for trustworthy Christian radio programming, the board of directors authorized an expansion of the ministry to include a radio station. Funds were quickly raised from local contributors, and over the next four years two attempts were made to obtain an FCC permit to build a station. Both were unsuccessful. Finally a third application was submitted, and an FCC permit was issued in 1986. Finding that the original contributions were now insufficient to put the station on the air, a new fund drive was begun, and additional funds were provided by April, 1987. Not long after that, on July 7th, 1987, KMOC-FM began broadcasting "The Message of Christ" to North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.

Since that first broadcast test on July 7th, 1987, with a single microphone, old phonograph and donated/borrowed equipment, KMOC has grown beyond all expectations. Now, with 4 full-time staff members and 4 part-time audio engineers, KMOC operates out of a custom designed studio with state of the art digital equipment. From Chuck Swindoll to James Dobson, from Steve Green and Twila Paris to PFR and The Newsboys, KMOC continues to provide top quality programs and music to all of N. Texas and S. Oklahoma. And there's more! With sporadic citywide crusades, yearly concerts and special outreach events, KMOC remains committed to more than Christian broadcasting. KMOC is about impacting people's lives on a daily basis in every way possible, and to being a catalyst of various ministry opportunities for individuals and the local church as a whole.

It is our prayer that as you listen to KMOC, you not only be brought from death to life, but will be challenged in your walk with Christ and lifted to a higher plain of Christian maturity. From the programs to the music, KMOC exists ultimately for God and then specifically for you. To Him be the praise and glory forever! Enjoy!
